Just when we thought we'd seen it all! This is an early experimental design by the Kay Company likely meant to compete with the ever-popular Dobro/National resophonic instruments of the day. The deep (4-3/8") body features an internal resonator system made entirely from specialized pieces of wood; rich, projecting tone...we think the design worked! Body is fully bound and finished in sunburst; wooden "cover plate" with circular cutouts with some crack repair and finish touchup. The maple neck has a bound ebony fingerboard (new binding), and shows finish touchup behind fingerboard and on back of peghead; hairline cracks present in ebony on board; original tuners; currently setup for slide playing (significant bow to neck).
