1. Herbert
Forrest Odell – c. 1900 American Mandolinist who was very popular in the
U.S. during time in which the mandolin was the public instrument of choice, not
to be surpassed by the guitar for another 30yrs. Internet full of info on him.
Takeaways-NONE
2.
B & J – (Buegeleisen and Jacobson). Started in NYC in
1901 as a Musical Instrument Wholesaler. Celluloid places this as their first
pick offering with their name on a tortoise style celluloid correlates to a
1895 Howard mandolin Takeaway: very faint imprint not easily seen, but none the
less evident with close inspection.
Picks 3 thru 5 appear in the same
1904 catalog
Lyon & Healy which is shown for
verification
3.
L & H – (Lyon & Healy) Musical Instrument
Wholesaler and this pick is in their 1904 catalog as you can see.
4.
Corrugated Pick – Seen in the same 1904 Lyon & Healy catalog.
It is the first known corrugated pick produced in the U.S. and none other
produced thereafter has the same style. Takeaways-NONE
5.
ABT (Valentine Abt) – Also seen in the 1904 Lyon
& Healy catalog. Like Odell, he was another highly regarded well known
mandolinist. Veriyable via a simple internet search Takeaway. Top of pick was
stamped from edge of celluloid sheet causing it to be ever so slightly clipped
as can be seen in the photo.
6.
Knackstedt – 3 node patented grip. The paten date appears
on the pick. Patent shown as authentication.
7.
Kork Grip – Another patented U.S. pick with the patent
again shown for purposes of authentication. This one is a second generation
variation c. 1924. Takeaways-NONE
