Parlor Otwin 1948-50

It is a parlor-size guitar, ladder braced (parallel bars), handmade, with a 62 cm scale, and a straight fingerboard (without radius). All the woods are solid and have an excellent construction.

The top is made of spruce with wooden herringbone borders, the same as around the mouth. The back and sides are made of curly maple, as is the neck. The fretboard looks like pear tree.

It is not easy to date this guitar, the pickguard is screwless gears. These tuners were used until the mid-30s, so I think the guitar is probably older. All pieces are originals

His condition is very good. It has a small crack in the lid, which has been professionally repaired, and numerous litle taps and scratches that do not affect its integrity at all.

The maple back shrinks over time, as is normal for solid woods, and the edges of the sides have been re-adjusted to seat it firmly.

It has been meticulously restored to the last detail, the fingerboard has also been leveled and it has been re-fretted with the same original bronze frets.

The guitar is fully operational working well, comfortable to play and great sounding!

"Otwin guitars were built in Germany, and were the brand used for guitars by master luthier Otto Windisch.

The commercial foundation of the Otwin company occurred in 1886 in Schilbach. At the age of 20, Otto Windisch, founded a company that would grow into a world-class company over the years. In 1903 Otwin opened a branch in Schöneck with between 70 and 120 employees.

Stringed and pulsating instruments were produced, as well as special forms such as the Stelzner instruments and master violins. And he acquired a great reputation for his excellent instruments

In addition to series production, they also pioneered Custom Shop manufacturing, as we would call it today, with high-quality instruments."
