2004 Benedetto Guild X-700 Stuart

Serial #: CBB1000011, Bob Benedetto signed label

Body size at lower bout: 17" Scale length: 25 1/2" Nut width: 1 11/16" Body depth: 3"

Solid carved book-matched European spruce top, solid European carved tiger flame maple back, sides and neck; solid ebony fingerboard with mother of pearl/abalone V-block inlay; pearl head stock inlay; 12 ply body binding, 7 ply fingerboard and head stock binding, 5 ply bound f-holes.

With the two humbuckers, this guitar can handle any style of music!

100% original hardware, including hand-engraved gold tailpiece; compensated ebony bridge; gold Grover Rotomatic tuners; beveled art deco stairstep pickguard; gold A-6 Benedetto humbucking pickups; tone and volume controls for each pickup, master volume and 3 way pickup selector.

Bob Benedetto is one of the most influential archtop builders in the world. He has his own line of archtops. However, he did build two Guild models when the Guild factory was at Westerly, RI, and Corona, CA. This guitar was made in 2004. Currently, Benedetto is not making models with two humbuckers. Thus, this is an unusual opportunity to snag a rare Benedetto built jazz box.

The X-700 Stuart is carved of all solid European tone-woods, with a 17" full depth Venetian cutaway body, long scale solid ebony fingerboard, twin built-in humbucker pickups, deluxe multiply binding and gold hardware throughout. The bound art-deco pickguard reminds one of the D'Angelico New Yorker model.

Very few of this model were built. The neck has a comfy D profile. The finish is a special Benedetto version of nitrocellulose lacquer. The scale length is 25 1/2". An earlier 'regular' X-700 built at Westerly, RI is not similar in construction or quality, nor does it have the high quality Benedetto A-6 humbuckers. Though similar in appointments, the Stuart should not be confused with the Westerly Guild X-700 model, which was built with laminate back and sides, a short scale neck, and Guild pickups.

This guitar was held in a collection. When I received it in May, 2020, it appeared unplayed. The original deluxe plush six latch faux alligator case is supplied.

I have two other Guild jazz boxes, so I've decided to let this one go.

The instrument is strung with Thomastik-Infeld "George Benson Jazz Strings," nickel flat wound, 0.14 0.18 021w .031 .041. 055.
