This is a vibey little beast!! This is a simple guitar stripped down to the core elements of what could be considered a guitar, it’s plain vanilla but it’s the best plain vanilla ice cream you’ve ever had. The best cup of coffee doesn’t need any sugar or cream.
This was made in the USA for department stores in the 60’s, and they’ve been rediscovered in the decades since then for their great vibes and recordable tones. You pick this guitar up and immediately feel the Dylan songs start coming out. It can still shred up and down the neck, but these guitars are great for simplifying the songs of someone who can err on the side of complexity. Yes, I am attempting to prescribe the same medicine to you that I had work on me. If your songs can be too busy and overworked/overwritten, this guitar can help you out. Writing and recording songs can be like making hamburgers, they say the more you handle the meat the less flavor it has. Put some thought into it, make some cool changes, but don’t overhandle the meat!
Overall it’s a very healthy guitar, neck is straight and it sounds great. Action and neck are a little chunky but nothing that’s too much work to get a good song out of. These are made out of simple materials like most of the department store guitars of the time, but they have their own sound and place in the guitar world. In my experience, you’ll write something more meaningful on a guitar like this than a shredder guitar that plays technically perfect but without any vibe. It’s a great Cat Stevens guitar!
