About This Listing

Fender Champ 5F1 Model Tube Amplifier (1962), made in Fullerton, California, serial # C18955, tweed fabric covering finish. Height is 11 3/4 in. (29.8 cm.), 13 1/4 in. (33.7 cm.) width, and 6 1/2 in. (16.5 cm.) deep. This is a generally well-preserved final iteration of the tweed Fender Champ, showing some general wear but looking not too heavily used. It has a tube-chart ink-stamp of "LI" indicating it was assembled in September 1962. By that point only the Champ (intended for students) retained its 1950s Tweed livery; the other larger Fender amps were well into their white and brown Tolex eras. This amp has just been serviced and is sounding great. Work included adding a grounded 3-prong cord, standard filter cap job with replaced electrolytics, and re-biasing to spec. No circuit changes have been made. The amp retains the original 1962 transformers marked 606-2-19 on the output and 606-2-13 on the PT. The speaker is a modern Weber CVA8 Alnico Classic, the tubes vintage NOS with an RCA Rectifier, Power: Sylvania 6V6, V1: RCA 12AX7.Externally the tweed is very nice with some typical fraying at the edges and tweed wear down to the wood at several corners. Everything else is quite natty; the leather handle is a high-quality replacement and the faceplate shows only some very light corrosion with minor loss to the stenciled graphics. This is yet another great-sounding tweed Champ, a perennial favorite amp -- small in size but a monster in tone! Excellent - Condition.
