About This Listing

Horabe Model 25 Classical Guitar. Condition is Used. Manufactured around 1990.

The Horabe Model 25 guitar was hand crafted in the Asturias workshop in Japan. Asturias guitars have a tremendous ratio of extraordinary build quality to cost. Asturias guitars utilize the finest tonewoods to produce numerous high quality models, including this now discontinued Horabe Model 25. The aged cedar top contributes to a warm articulation, balance, dynamic range, and power in all registers. A very resonant and clear sound. A beautiful voice. The lacquer finish is thin and glossy giving the instrument great sustain. It is easy to play, and has excellent trebles and bass response. The individual notes are bell like and there is no fretting out of any notes.

Included are a dealer catalog page that includes an excellent review from Frets magazine. It reads, ‘The cedar sound board appears superior to that used on most lower priced solid top guitars. And the workmanship inside and out is very clean. In playing tests, we found that our sample guitar likewise delivered a lot for the money. The warm sound was full and rich, the volume ample, and the instrument proved quite responsive to variations in attack, producing a respectable range of tone color.’

The 25 was discontinued earlier than the other Horabe models with the demise of JTG of Nashville around 1995. The Model 25, along with all Horabes, are quite rare.

Solid cedar top.

Dot markers at frets 5,7,9,12

Beautiful purfing and bindings

Very attractive rosette marquetry.

Mahogany back and sides that are stained a rosewood color

Mahogany neck

Ebony fingerboard

Rosewood bridge

Bone nut and saddle

5 fan bracing that supports the top.

Standard scale of 650 mm.

No structural issues or repairs. The neck is straight, not bowed, impeccable fret work with no wear, no bellying, no cracks, no structural issues, no loose braces, no loose bindings. The sides, back, neck and headstock present as nearly new. The instrument is in very, very nice shape. At some point the top acquired an inch surface scratch that was touched up. It’s almost smooth to the touch, and was surface only. A very small dent in the headstock that is hard to photograph. Please see the pictures. I do not believe it was ever regularly played, perhaps stored for decades in a collection or closet.

If you have been searching for a high quality concert instrument at an affordable price, this is the one. The photos are the majority of the description, so do zoom in and ask questions. I will pack it like a pro in a big oversized box.

The only reason I am selling is to save for an Asturias cutaway classical with electronics.

More photos available on request.
