Studer A810 Master Recorder 4-Speed 1/4" 2-Track Tape Machine - Recapped

Here is a very nice Studer A810 with an interesting history. It was used and maintained by the NBC radio studios in Washington DC. After NBC radio was shut down these sat in storage for over 20 years. The great thing is that NBC could afford to keep their machines in top condition.

This unit is sold as uncalibrated and as is, so you will need to have it calibrated for the type of tape you wish to use. I have done a rough calibration to ensure it works, but I strongly recommend you send it to someone like Bob Schuster (who has worked on these units while at NBC). Bear in mind, this is a 34 year old piece of sophisticated and complex equipment.

• Updated with version 01/88 software.
• 4-speeds (3 3/4, 7 1/2, 15, 30). 
• New Athan pinch roller.
• Nearly all electrolytic and RIFA film capacitors have been replaced with high quality Panasonic or Nichicon caps. The original power capacitors have not been changed as this is generally not recommended.
• Failed ICs in Tape Deck Controller and VU Meters replaced.
• New backup battery installed in MP Unit.
• Includes tape marker (1.810.402.81) and cover pegs.
• 0.5mL of PDP-65 capstan bearing lube.
• Unit has been thoroughly cleaned.
• New bulbs in VU meters.
• Documented reconditioning process available as a PDF.
• Current rough calibration values included (in case the memory clears due to being unplugged).
• New high-quality fasteners. Old fasteners are included as spares.
• Scratched blank dummy panels (P/N 1.810.002.04) have been replaced with nicer panels. Originals are in the spare VU panel.

Not included:

• NAB hubs and reels.
• Penthouse for meter bridge. NBC apparently discarded these, but one filler panel is included in case you find a penthouse available.

Due to the weight, size, and fragility of these machines it can only be shipped freight or delivered by local pickup. If you are near enough to where I am then I can deliver it to you. I can also help arrange truck shipping anywhere east of the Mississippi. Alternately, this can be loaded on a palette and shipped freight anywhere. The shipping estimate is based on crate shipping to California.
