Here is a wonderful value on a one owner 39 year old Japanese-built semi-automatic direct drive turntable, the hard-to-find SL-D205 by Technics. The SL-D205 is semi-automatic model, meaning that you move and lower the tonearm to start, but the tonearm lifts and returns (and the motor shuts off) automatically, at the end of the side, or whenever you press the stop button, so you'll never worry about leaving it unattended while playing. The D205 has a unique and excellent set of features that make it a big favorite at Northwest Tone. This one looks and runs like new, and it includes the original 45 rpm adapter, owner's manual, and even the never completed warranty card.

The direct drive maintains pinpoint correct continuous speed, confirmed by the built-in lighted strobe display. with pitch adjustment capability. The low mass S-shaped tonearm and vintage light tracking Audio Technica MG200E cartridge (mounted on an upgraded Audio Technica headshell) provide excellent compliance to the groove and will ride even scratched and warped vinyl with ease.

All controls are located in front of the dust cover so you can perform any operation without even needing to raise the lid. Very low profile and space efficient design. The SL-D205 has a cool DJ light at the back that shines just enough light on the surface of an album to help you find the track you are looking for in a dimly lit room. And there is a switch for the light, so you can have it off when you prefer, unlike some of the lights on later straight arm Technics models.

Th SL-D205 has a heavy base, and nicely combines the rugged build quality of Technics flagship models with the more user friendly controls for home audio use. Detailed technical specifications appear in the images.

This Japanese gem from 1981 is in perfect operating condition and superb physical condition with only the most minor indications that it is used. The cartridge sounds fantastic and has much time remaining on the original stylus. Even the dust cover is in nearly pristine condition. The turntable includes all the correct original interconnects, and its original 45 rpm adapter that stows neatly on the base. This turntable sounds great, works perfectly, and needs nothing -- and it will provide you with true audiophile performance at a very affordable price. You will never see a nicer example of the Technics SL-D205.
