Summary:

Finish:
Lacquer, tobacco burst

Neck Profile: Soft V

Fingerboard Radius: Flat

Scale Length: 14"

Nut Width: About 1 1/8"

Hardware: All original and in good shape, original pick guard is missing

Case: No case

Repairs/Modifications: Current floating bridge may not be original. Most notably, there is an area on the back of the instrument where a hole was punctured, which has been pieced back together and glued from the inside with a large cleat covering the area. The repair is structurally sound. Otherwise, there are two small cracks on the back near the tail of the instrument that have been repaired.

Neck Details: Neck is pretty straight, slight forward bow, probably good considering the absence of a truss rod.

Action: About .060" all the way across, measured at the 12th fret

Fret Wear: Fret wear from individual strings is pretty minimal, frets have obviously been leveled at some point, particularly noticeable near the body joint.

General Cosmetic Condition: This instrument is in pretty good shape, aside from the area mentioned above where the back was punctured and repaired. Other than that, its just lacquer checking and your garden variety dings and scratches that one can expect to see on an instrument of this age.

Other Notes: This instrument plays well up until about the 9th fret, where it starts to have some problems. On the lower 3 courses, this is just fret buzz, but still a discernible and accurate note on each fret. On the upper course, the notes completely fret out on frets 9 and up. Action is currently pretty low, this could be remedied by raising the bridge perhaps.

You're looking at a fine little Harmony made A-style vintage Mandolin. Aside from the aforementioned fretting issues, it plays and sounds just great. This is a quality American made vintage instrument at an affordable price! Feel free to contact me with any questions.
