About This Listing

Up for sale, a 1987 Fender Telecaster Custom model CTC-55R electric guitar in 100% original condition and in perfect working order. A rare, early special ordered Fender Japan model from the original Fujigen factory run of Tele Customs, this guitar features matching Order Made stamps on the neck heel and pocket. Officially model CTC-55R, this "Made in Japan" instrument has a sleek Black gloss finish which extends to the neck profile and headstock face.

This Tele has a broad tonal spectrum, from thick, meaty Wide Range humbucker tones in the neck position to chiming, twangy single coil tones at the bridge. Of course the middle position is truly a "best of both worlds setting," and the two pickups balance well both in terms of output and their respective tonal attributes. Weighing 7lbs 13oz, this guitar has a pleasing, crisp acoustic tone with solid sustain that translates well through the pickups. We've had this Tele professionally setup here Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, strung with 10-46 strings and dialed in for low action and accurate intonation.

The maple neck has a medium C shaped profile with good shoulder and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .825" deep at the 1st fret, tapering to .910" at the 12th. The thick slab rosewood fretboard boasts dot inlay and the original slender vintage-style fretwire. The frets retain their full factory height, showing light, uniform wear on the crowns of frets 1-7, with fainter wear extending to the octave beneath the plain strings. The truss rod is optimally adjusted, the neck is straight, and the guitar plays easily in every register. The scale length is the traditional 25 1/2", while the fretboard radius also matches vintage spec at 7 1/4", and the nut has a full 1 11/16" width. On the matching headstock, the original Gotoh-branded tuners turn very smoothly and hold pitch as they should.

All of the electronics function accordingly, with each pickup wired to independent Volume and Tone controls. The stock hardware is intact, with original witch hat knobs and large black pickguard. Cosmetic wear includes pick scuffing across the guard, with a couple finish chips with targeted finish touchup on the back bass-side upper bout and adjacent to the neck plate. There is one ding at the treble side waist on the side of the body, and a few requisite minor scattered marks and faint finish scratches in the clear coat. The neck profile sports a very clean and smooth gloss finish with only a couple minuscule marks that are not distracting to the palm.

A Fender gigbag is included. The original padded Schecter-branded gigbag is included. A gigbag is included.A gigbag is included.
