G&L SB-2T Spanish Copper Quartersawn Neck The G&L SB-2 is an easy choice for any bass player looking for simplicity and performance. The classic P-Bass shape is updated and upgraded with two powerful Magnetic Field Design (MFD) pickups, a hefty saddle lock bridge and a PLEK® finished neck all standard. We’ve also upgraded this SB-2 with the “tone mod” option and quarter-sawn neck, giving it everything one could want from a high performance bass.

This custom ordered USA G&L SB-2 features the following:

  • Spanish Copper Metallic on Alder, 9 pounds
  • G&L #8 satin finish quarter-sawn maple neck, 9.5" radius, 34" scale
  • 1.5" width at the nut
  • Indian Rosewood fingerboard
  • 2 G&L MFD pickups, P and J bass style
  • Creme pickguard
  • Twin volume controls and a tone control
  • Lightweight aluminum tuning pegs
  • G&L patented massive saddle lock bridge
  • Plek® laser guided fret finishing
  • G&L non-compression truss rod
  • Headstock model logo delete
  • Tolex hardshell case

The SB-2 takes the best of both the P and J bass worlds and employs both a split middle pickup, and a multi-pole J-style MFD bridge pickup. The MFD bass pickups have what all MFD pickups are known for: Great clarity, a broad frequency range and plenty of output. The MFD’s invite exploration, and there is a broad spectrum of usable tones from mellow vintage, to bright funky slap, or rumbling growl. While the SB-2 comes standard with two volume controls, we added the “tone mod” global tone control, effectively creating a JB-style V-V-T arrangement. This provides an easy high-end adjustment without altering with pickup balance.

The G&L #8 neck with its JB-influenced 1.5" nut width is comfortable to play, and for guitar players who also play bass, it's easy to acclimate to, and plays fluidly. Hands down, it’s our favorite, and the Indian Rosewood fretboard is icing on the cake. It's a beautiful compliment to the Creme pickguard, and the dark rosewood streaks really pop against the Spanish Copper finish. In addition the quarter-sawn maple neck has the grain oriented perpendicular to the fretboard. This makes the neck stiffer and more stable, improving attack and eliminating the chance of dead spots.

Like all G&L bass guitars, you also get a PLEK-finished neck, hand-wired full sized pots, lightweight aluminum peg tuning keys, and G&L's hefty machined bridge with saddle lock feature. The saddle lock set screw clamps the saddles together for better sustain and fewer sympathetic vibrations.

The G&L SB-2 is deceptively simple, but extremely flexible. While traditional in looks, the MFD pickups give the SB-2 a modern edge that can be snappy and driving, or dialed back for clean springy tones that are great for jazz or fusion. If you need a professional quality instrument to cover the bases (basses) that won't bust your wallet check out the SB-2.
