Fender 40th Anniversary AVRI '54 Strat, two tone sunburst, made in Corona USA 1994. This is a special Strat, that's for sure. The Stratocaster launched to wild acclaim in 1954, so Fender released a limited run extra special American Vintage '54 Strats to mark the occasion; this is number 1409 of the 1954 made. It's the classic ash and maple combo, but oh boy, what a piece of ash, and what a piece of maple! The body is two piece bookmatched ash, light in weight with beautiful concentric grain patterns. The neck is a highly figured flame maple one piece, again light in weight and gorgeous to the eye. The natural resonance of this is as good as any Strat I've ever played; it's very loud unplugged and rings very truly at the lightest touch. Really good Strats have a certain thickness to the tone, and this absolutely has it: heaps of attack and weight through the lows, balanced by the traditional 'Strat spank' through the top end. It's got a complexity and depth through the mids you just don't get on a run-of-the-mill USA Strat; it really is a superb sounding guitar. Plus, the original case and full 50s style dealer notes are all intact. These sometimes list at prices significantly north of this mark, so nab yourself a great little collectable Fender before it turns thirty and gets very expensive indeed.

Neck is clean and smooth in the hands, just some minor dimples on the back and some checking near the joint. The back has a few dimples near the neck plate, light scuffs spread around the body but no major marks, it's pretty clean. The sides are pretty clean, just some dimples on both horns and near the jack. The front has a noteworthy chip on the edge in the elbow area, a couple of dimples behind the bridge and some standard play wear on the guard and horn. Overall: very good condition (8/10).
