Built in Fuzz and Maestro Phaser. The Phaser is exactly the same as the Maestro PS-1.
This amp has recently been serviced with:
- New JJ KT88's from The Tube Store
- Full electrolytic recap
- New handle
- 4 replacement knobs
- All pots, jacks, switches cleaned
- All mechanical connections cleaned with wire brush
All functioning 100%! Everything not mentioned is original.
These amps originally came with a now defunct (and always problematic) tube, the 8417. Most I have seen are either running modern tubes way out-of-spec, or have been significantly tamed to use more common tubes like 6L6 or EL34. In an effort to retain the original character of the amp, KT88's have been installed. They allow the amp to run within it's original parameters, at almost 600 plate volts!
Here is a brief history of these from Greg's Gear Boutique on Reverb in Arizona:
In early 1970’s the famed Bob Crooks Standel Amplifiers in Temple City, California got into financial trouble and sold off to CMI Electronics, which owned Gibson at the time. The stipulation was that they had to produce an amp together with Gibson, and in 1974 the “SG System” (stands for Standel / Gibson) amplifiers were born. They were only made for a year, when the production was discontinued and never resumed. There were several variations - heads, 115’s, etc - but 212 is commonly considered to be the most desirable of them all, since it was uniquely made for the guitar player. Not many amps were made - and the ones that remain, have a critical flaw - they use the 8417 power tube, which are now incredibly hard to find.
This one has some slight surface corrosion on the speaker baskets, but the electronics are in excellent shape (no corrosion) and all mechanical connections have been cleaned/polished.
Get one before someone big starts using it and they shoot up in value.
