About This Listing

THIS DRUM IS FROM JOHNNY’S PERSONAL COLLECTION. ALL NET PROCEEDS GO TO HIS FAMILY. When Johnny passed away four years ago we helped take inventory of drums that Johnny had saved. Many of these include vintage drums that inspired him; early examples of his customization work; early prototypes of certain sizes; and some unique finished products. Almost all of these have the original box that he stored them in with his description on the outside. We are selling these for his family. Certificate of authenticity signed by Steve will be provided.

This drum is another example of Johnny’s thinking being far ahead of the rest of us. Bubinga! (On the box Johnny’s has his own unique spelling!). These days Bubinga is highly sought after, not only for solid shells but also for ply shells, but when this drum was made (decades ago) Bubinga was unheard of as yet for drums.
Today at Craviotto the team tries to get high quality Bubinga whenever we can for Craviotto snares, but it is hard to find in the quality we need. We occasionally get some in and the drums always sell fast. (Trying to find enough for a long-standing special kit order as we speak, but it is tough!)
Anyhow, this drum is an example of Johnny’s very early work and the paper tag inside is from his days doing “custom drum building and repairs”. The shell is great. Hardware is a Tama strainer, die cast rims, and some standard tube lugs. There is significant chrome flaking on one of the hoops in spots, but this is all about the history, not the rims. The drum has two ventholes on each side. They are in the panels for the strainer and the butt plate. One hole to the left and one to the right. There is a small tear in the bottom head, but even as-is, this drum sounds incredible. This is one you won’t want to miss for your Craviotto collection!
