Guild Benedetto Johnny Smith Award

Top: Hand Carved Graduated Solid European Spruce
Back and Sides: Solid Figured German Maple
X bracing

Master builders Mark Piper and Evan Ellis collaborated to create the Guild Benedetto guitars at the Fender Custom Shop.

This Guild Benedetto Signature Johnny Smith Award is 1 of 18
archtops originally signed by world renowned recording artist Johnny Smith.

Johnny Smith signed 18 of the new JS Awards at a major press event on August 9th 2004. Note the rear headstock signature. Additionally, Bob Benedetto signed each of these guitars on the label at the bass side f-hole - Note the photograph of Benedetto's signature on the label.

Fender Guild made some 70 total Guild Benedetto Johnny Smith Award guitars between 2002-2005. MSRP $11,000.

Bob Benedetto's association with Guild started in the Westerly, Rhode Island days and extended through Guild's acquisition by Fender and into the establishment of the Corona Custom Shop. The Benedetto Guilds attracted rave reviews for design, quality, tone and finish.

Condition - Clearly a 9.7 out of 10. One ding to the treble side lower rim. A few tiny hair line lacquer checks too thin for the camera to capture. Luthier's repair estimate for the ding was $150...see final pic near the head of a pick.

Performance - Harmonics unlike anything I've previously owned...L5's, Guild Artist Award, Bourgeois A-350, Super 400, Golden and Super Eagles...I've not previously experienced any guitar like this.

A new $35 string set of Thomstik Infeld Bebop rounds just installed.

Complete with original Premium Alligator hardshell case, in perfect
