Here
is a nice early Collins 26U-1 limiter in very nice condition. These
were the top of the line Collins limiters and they are one of the best
sounding and best built vintage tube limiters from the 50s and early
60s. Collins used UTC transformers, while most compressors at the time
had transformers with limited frequency response of 100 Hz to 10,000 Hz
the 26U transformers have full frequency and beyond from 20 Hz to 20,000
Hz. The Collins uses a UTC A 10 on the input with a special inter-stage
and output transformer and the best long life electrolytic can
capacitors. This one is in very nice condition and comes with NOS tubes
(except for the 6386 which is tested and good), I can include a NOS GE
6386 for an extra $100. This one has been in storage for 20 years now
but was working well before that, it should be checked out by a tech
before being put in use to make sure all the caps are good. All the
transformers have been tested and are good and as I said it comes with
NOS tubes. As far as the sound of these think HUGE! The are so fat and
smooth, the really make things sit in the track but somehow makes the
very defined as well. They excel on vocals, bass, guitars, horns, and
even drums (great on room or a single overhead). I will include a PDF or
the original Collins 26U manual.
