About This Listing

Great little one-knob fuzz. I tend to prefer the thin setting, where it can kind of get into Shin-Ei Companion territory, over the thick that sounds a bit Muff-y. It's one knob. Don't overthink it.

From Walrus:

Having ruled that fuzz distorts reality and amplifies the truth, a future
dystopian nation outlawed fuzz decades ago because its effects on children and families in the past were undesirable. But rumor has it that someone is smuggling fuzz — the most-coveted contraband — back into circulation.

The Contraband is a single-knob fuzz machine that ravages your guitar signal and generates a metallic wall of sound. Because of its size, it’s easy to smuggle into regions where fuzz is not welcome.

The Contraband packs a huge punch for being in a petite enclosure. The single volume knob lets you decide how loud your signal will be, while the tone switch can help thin out humbuckers or beef up single-coils.

The natural bass frequencies of different guitars and pickup combinations, at times can be too much; this is where the Thick and Thin switch comes in handy. Single-coil pickups may sound better in Thick mode, while humbuckers may sound better in Thin mode, but you can find versatile and complimentary tones in both positions no matter the pickup selection. The mild built-in gate allows you to get those choked-off, dying-battery sounds when you roll down your guitar’s volume knob.

It’s the Thick and Thin Switch cutting or boosting certain incoming bass frequencies that makes it a viable and versatile tool in any player’s belt. Because of that, it really caters toward bass and analog synth players as well. This is your quick go-to fuzz for strings and synth that is compact and fits a wide variety of music. Kick it on, have fun and be careful.

The Contraband comes in a gold-sparkle, textured enclosure with navy ink featuring original artwork of a smuggler delivering fuzz to the people.

The diecast enclosure’s exact size is 4.39" x 2.34" x 1.06". Power requirements are 9VDC (20mA minimum).

Walrus Audio is offering The Contraband for a retail price of $149. It is now available for pre-order at and will soon be available with our authorized dealers.

The Contraband’s official release date will be June 15th, 2016.
