New Update, Please Read - My luthier and I have now concluded that this guitar really needs a neck reset going forward. I love the mojo of this guitar, but I have too much in it already to go down this road. It's time to move on, and I hope someone else can make her happy. So, while I'm taking a huge loss, $200 plus shipping gets it.
Original Description
This is a Kiso Suzuki W-65HA “Dove” acoustic guitar made in Japan about 1975. The label says “Kiso Suzuki Violin Co., Ltd” with a serial number 51059. It shows a good amount of wear for sure, but no cracks or major dings. However, when I got it, the pickguard was faded and had shrunken so much I was concerned it would damage the finish, so I carefully removed it. Personally, I think it looks gorgeous without it – really emphasizes the colors. It just seems to have a lot of personality and mojo. I’m including the original pickguard, as well as a cheap replacement I found on the internet. A bone saddle and bridge pins were added at some point, but I have the originals in case you want to switch back. I'm not sure whether the tuners are original or not - then pictures I've seen show several different types of tuners.
There also seem to be two additional dot inlays on this guitar’s beautiful bridge covering a couple of screws; I’m not sure if they were added later to give a little more support to the back of the bridge or not. There were several different versions of this “Dove” bridge. The back of the headstock still features the sticker from the music store in Giessen, Germany, where I suppose it was originally purchased in 1975. Musikhaus Schoenau still exists by the way. This guitar sounds great with a nice deep bass. To be completely honest, one of my luthier friends thought that a neck reset may be needed at some point, while another one disagreed and thought it just needed to have the frets carefully leveled and polished. That’s what was recently performed, and I am very happy with it. This guitar will come in a really nice padded Protec gig bag.
Addendum: I initially forgot - honestly - to photograph the small damage on the backside edge of the upper bout. Have included it now. Neither of my luthiers thought it was worth doing anything with it
