1953 All original Vintage Fender tweed Pro Amp, model 5B5 “wide-panel,” with the unmistakable sound of a true rock and roll legend in excellent working order. This is not a re-issue. This amp should go right into your studio! The only mods on this amp are the addition of a grounded power cord, a replaced carry handle, and a 1960 Jensen P15N speaker. This amp also comes with the original 1953 P15N speaker (Will ship in a separate box.
Cost of shipping the original speaker add $49.00), which is very clean but has some rattling. Also comes with original carry handle, which is torn on one end. It was replaced with an exact replica. The amp’s tube chart is attached to the interior. The tube chart has a stamped Serial Number 3068, but does not have a year/month code. The amp was probably made before Fender began putting the year/month code on every amp. Best of all, the original tweed covering is complete around the entire amp aside from two small holes in the lower back panel. This amp becomes rarer as time goes on. A 1953 tweed Pro like this one, with its original tweed and grill cloth, in excellent working order, and with all of the mojo that you would expect from an amp of this era, is becoming more and more difficult to find. In order to maintain the integrity of its sound and character, routine maintenance such as replacing power caps, and possibly having a capacitor or resistor replaced in the tone circuit, have necessarily been performed on this amp in the past. The amp is rated by Fender at 25~ watts to drive the 15” speaker. This amp uses pure tube power to project its powerful clean and rich tones, which can morph into an organic, natural- sounding overdrive. It is perfect for recording or gigging.
Like other early Fenders amps, this amp uses 3 6sc7 preamp tubes. The preamp tubes are metal and two of them appear to be original. The third has a grading sticker on it from a tube checking machine, so it must have come later. This setup is highly desirable and the tubes are readily available today. It has a good bit of headroom followed by very sweet breakup, and can easily play over a drummer. The rectifier also appears to be the original U.S. made 5U4GB. The output section tubes are high-end, graded NOS (new old stock) JAN 6L6/5881’s that were installed by the present owner. All of the output tubes are N. American made and correct for the amp, much to the delight of all anal retentive, vintage Fender amp lovers! We don’t like to remove the tubes unless absolutely necessary because the plastic/Bakelite tube guides are fragile. All tube guides are intact.
