Guitarbud Music offers this 1961 Silvertone (Model number 1427L). by Harmony (Its Model number H62) Espanada, 3 inch wide arch top guitar in mirror black lacquer finish. This guitar has very few signs of wear. This guitar carries the Silvertone name, but was made in the USA by the Harmony Music Corp. of Chicago, Il. It’s the cleanest black lacquer guitar I’ve ever seen. I don’t even see a clear coat- only polished black lacquer. This guitar has triple white binding. The pickups are original Gibson P-13’s under their original, clear lucite bases. The volume and tone knobs are Bakelite. The pick guard and tuners are clean and intact, as is the trapeze style tailpiece and the bridge. The guitar is professionally set up with 10s and, most importantly, it stays in tune! Its neck is straight. It plays and sounds like a dream, with low, fast action as you would expect. All original down to the last screw! Only mod- the owner added an extremely small wire grounding the pickups to the tailpiece. This significantly reduced the noise from the single coil pickups. This guitar is in excellent physical and playability condition. Have you ever heard the adage that if the vintage case is in good shape, then the vintage guitar inside is in good shape? Well, this guitar comes with its original, grey and white cardboard case, which is in beautiful condition- and so is the guitar!

If you are a Jump Blues player and want to sound like Rick Holmstrom, Kid Ramos, Teddy Morgan or Junior Watson, just plug this in to a tweed with a Fender reverb tank! The tonal range on this guitar is extremely full and stunning: from Punk to Jazz to Country.

Called “the best kept secret in the blues world,” the P-13 pickups were made by Gibson in the late 40’s and 50’s. P-13 pickups were the precursors to Gibson P-90’s and can be found in Gibson’s ES100’s, ES125’s, ES150’s and lap steels of the time. When Gibson moved on to the P-90, it is said to have sold its remaining lot of P-13’s to Harmony, which used the pickups in its high-end Silvertone guitars, like this Espanada. The coils in these P-13’s have a steel core with a rust-free, full metal cover. The pickup heights can be adjusted by 2 end screws. This sought after style of P-13 has alnico magnets with individual, adjustable pole pieces, which give the pickups a fat but very biting, warm tone. The ground wire works, and the pickups are quieter, compared to other single coil pickups of the time.

For an almost 60 year old guitar, this Espanada is in excellent shape. There are a couple of very small chips on the side near the neck and several on the side near the input plug, as shown in the pictures. There is some finish wear on the neck under the first position, as shown. This is simply a finish issue and does not effect the guitar’s playability. This guitar comes with its original, grey and white cardboard case, which is in particularly good condition.

Is there a reason why we don’t see any other vintage Espanada’s on this site? It’s because they are desirable and affordable vintage tone monsters and they get bought up!

*Free shipping to the lower 48 is included in the price.
