About This Listing

This is a 2012 Gretsch G5220 Junior Jet II. The Junior Jet is reminiscent of the Les Paul Junior – simple and soulful. A musician’s instrument that’s meant to be played loud. And this example has been hot-rodded for the better.

The Junior Jet has been built in many configurations over the years but what they have in common is a solid mahogany, single cutaway body, mahogany neck, wrap-tail bridge and no frills. This one includes two mini humbuckers with a three-way switch and single volume and tone controls.

An indispensable ingredient in this rock/blues machine is the wrap-tail bridge. We love the way wrap-tails sound – direct and powerful. This one is the famous Epiphone “lightning bar” compensated for a non-wound G string. It sits on TonePros locking studs for even better sound conduction.

A pair of Seymour Duncan “Seymourized” mini humbuckers have been mounted with a custom-made pickguard. These babies sizzle. CTS pots, orange drop capacitor and Switchcraft 3-way switch and output jack keep the signal strong and clean. Control knobs are knurled domes. Nice touch.

The rosewood fingerboard shows nice straight grain. The frets were leveled and crowned. A Corian nut was hand made. Grover “milk bottle” tuning machines have been installed and hold tune beautifully. I recommend .010s on this instrument. GHS nickel rockers with plain G string is a good choice. Action is nice and low over the 12” radius fingerboard. The nut width is 1 – 11/16”. The scale length is around 24 – ½”

This ain’t your average Junior Jet. This Jet screams. She brings instant street cred to anyone with a rock & roll soul and blues running through their veins.

There are two finish flaws. There is a small finish chip at the upper corner of the treble pickup (about 4mm x 4mm) and another small finish chip on the back of the neck opposite the 7th fret (about 4mm x 5mm). Neither involve the wood, just the finish. There are no cracks, or repairs to the instrument and the rest of the finish is fine.

She ships in a mint Gretsch hard-shell case.
