About This Listing

Chris Knutsen Harp Guitar- extremely rare 1903 model
I bought this guitar over 20 years ago from Intermountain Guitars.  It's been hanging on my wall for years and it's time it went to someone who might use it or display it.  The soundboard has collapsed a little over the years.  I understand it was made by Chris Knutsen himself before he became associated with the Larson brothers.  He wasn't as talented a builder as the Larsons, but it is still a beautiful very early example of a harp guitar.   I tried to post a pic of the label inside the guitar- you'll note that the label has Mr. Knutsen's name misspelled.  This was apparently an error the printer made but Knutsen used these labels anyway.  He also used wood from a church pew for the neck.  You can see where he filled the holes on the back of the headstock.  The Larson brothers used these Knutsen guitars as a model for the harp guitars they made in the early 1900's.  This is a rare and beautiful collectors item/museum piece, and I'm selling it for $1000 less than I bought it for  in the 90's.
