Here is a stunningly simple, beautiful guitar. This richly balanced and focused Everett is in mint condition and has been endlessly humidified in a smoke-free room. This guitar is a fine example of Carlos Everett’s mastery, exceptional craftsmanship and creative sensibility. The top is flawless book-matched Engelmann Spruce married perfectly with Indian rosewood back and sides. The three-piece neck brings together a flamed maple spine sandwiched between two pieces of mahogany. With a beveled rosewood arm rest on the lower bout, a Koa rosette and zero markings on the fretboard (position markers on the edge of the fingerboard facing the player) the package is complete... simplified elegance, exceptional sound.
Responsive and clear with lots of sustain, crystal precision in the upper register and warm even tones across the middle and bass, Sofia 561 is easy to play - while the port in the upper bout gives you immediate and unexpected insight into the nuanced output of the soundboard. Going on seven years now, the guitar is aging perfectly. The color of the soundboard is darkening nicely while the sound grows richer with each passing year.
I’m selling this guitar because I don’t play it enough... and I don’t play it enough because I don’t want to mark it up or damage it in any way. I perform out quite a bit and tend to bang and dent guitars with a fair degree of regularity. I use factory-built guitars for that type of work and wouldn’t think of putting this hand-made instrument through that - at any cost.
This guitar is priced well below its replacement value. And note, Carlos doesn’t build this model any longer. If he did, a new one would bring something north of $6500 US. The Sophia comes with its original Ameritage case along with all the documentation and sundry accessories that were in the case when I bought it.
Links to Carlos’ website, Facebook page, the case manufacturer’s site and additional performance videos have been added as a PDF in photos. I ship within the US for the price quoted and would consider shipping oversees for the cost (including insurance) of doing so. If you’re interested learning more or have questions about the guitar, please send me a message.
