About This Listing

Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.

You are looking at a very rare early Shure Brothers microphone floor stand that just never comes around. This is a S55A model from the 1930's and early 1940's and is shown in pic # 2 from an old Shure advertisement that has all the basic specs on this stand.

This stand was only offered by Shure for about 10 years so you rarely ever come across these and this one in in pretty good shape overall considering it's age. As you can see the stand thread itself has the 5/8 X 27 universal thread and any mic or mic clip will technically mate to the top of it. I have been collecting and refurbishing mics for over 8 years now and this is the only example I have ever come across. There are like the Holy Grail of old Shure floor stands.

This model of Shure stand has a unique 3 legged design with heavy deco influence and will compliment any older Shure mic as well as any American mic for that matter. The S55A is built like a tank and has the adjustable top riser that slides up and down the lower riser with the push of a button making it very easy to get just the right height needed in a fraction of a second.

The S55A was one of just a few models being offered and was one of their higher end models. The wide stance of the cast iron base makes it very difficult to knock your mic over once placed on top.

This particular S55A stand has typical lite wear as you can see. The two stems have original satin lite grey paint that shows a couple spots of heavier wear where paint has been rubbed off as seen in a few of the pics. I tried to show the worst of it as the rest of the risers have just lite scuff marks and scratches. Best part is that the original Shure decal and "Push" decal are still present and look very good. The risers are made of steel. The paint on both the riser and base are 100% original. The base is colored black and a nice color combo. The base is actually very heavy and shows almost no wear. There are three original rubber bumper feet on the bottom that are in great shape and still work very nicely keeping the cast iron from scratching any surface it may rest on.

Please let the detailed pictures be your guide. I'd give this stand a true 7 + on a scale of 1 - 10.

It should be noted that the stand works perfectly. No issues with the adjustable riser. Mic stand is appx 70 inches tall at full height and can be lowered to just 42 inches if needed. Leg width is 15 1/2 inches. The stand is appx 10 3/4 pounds. The S55A will compliment any microphone that sits atop of it for sure this would really be ideal for that early Shure model mic such as the 55, 737A, 708A, 701A, etc...

If you demand a rare early Shure stand...look no further. This will not disappoint. You'll be one of the very few owners in America to have this model and will only go up in value due to their scarcity.
