Up for sale is a 50 year old Guild F50 Jumbo, Maple Archback, vintage acoustic guitar. This is a heavy played instrument that has toured with a full time musician for many years. I am grading the condition as fair, player condition. However, the play ability and sound quality is superb. So you can play the guitar and enjoy it, as is, for now, and pick a later time to repair the guitar, if you choose to do so.
This guitar has many features that you will find on Hoboken built guilds. It has a Hoboken, New Jersey sound hole label, patent pending Grover Rotomatics, a metal truss rod cover with silver shield, a Brazilian rosewood bridge, Tortoise pickguard, and a Hoboken style case with the vintage metal guild badge. Guild was in the process of moving from Hoboken to Westerly in the late 1960s to 1970. So they continued to use Hoboken supplies on the early Westerly models. These first year, 70s models, are highly desirable, and many guild collectors say these are some of the best sounding guilds ever built. This guitar has a look and feel that is very special. There really is no way to fake the look or sound of a fully broken in, heavily played acoustic guitar. Take a look at the back of the neck. How many hours of playtime does it take for the nitrocellulose finish to wear off from sweat, skin oils, and the grip pressure of a guitar player's hands wrapped around the neck? Years and years of constant play would be my guess. The guitar does not need a neck reset. The action and string height are good. It is easy to play. There is some saddle left. A straight edge measurement from the fretboard to the bridge, does not sit on top of the bridge, but meets up very near the top of the bridge.
There are many negatives to point out on a player condition guitar like this. Here is what i see when looking over the guitar. Multiple top cracks in the Sitka Spruce top. Tons of dings, dents, scratches, and scuffs are visible through out the guitar. Several parts of the guitar have binding shrinkage and separation. The metal frets show wear marks, and this would be the first thing I fixed. (Maybe replace the first 3-5 metal frets to improve play ability and sound without spending much money.) The pick up works properly, with no issues. The case is heavily beat up, but does it's job. The replacement handle works fine, and all the latches work properly. The inside is still in ok condition. It has a bit of an odor to it, but it's not from smoke or pets. I stuck a few dryer sheets in there after vacuuming it, and its already much better.
Overall I find this to be a super cool, guild guitar. There is so much history behind this guitar and the model. Players like Eric Clapton made this there go to acoustic for many years. It has the look and feel of a guitar that has played thousands of songs, and each ding or scratch could tell a thousand stories. The good outweighs the bad in my opinion, so that is why I decided to buy it. Now i want to find it a great home, and an owner who will enjoy it for years to come.
The only guitars that I buy, sell, and collect are guild acoustics. I search far and wide every day for the best guilds to buy and offer up for sale. I am very picky about what I buy. I will say no to a 100 guitars before I say yes to one. When you buy from me, you will know what you are getting. The guitars will be pre qualified by me. I love matching up the right guitar with the right player, and selling someone their first guild, is a real treat for me. I love this brand, and want to help promote it, and get new players to give guild a try. They are the best, bang for your buck, on the used guitar market, if you are looking for a USA, hand built guitar, with premium components. Please message me for additional pics and information. I prefer to make my deals direct and privately, so let me know if you have an offer for me. I have many other guilds for sale, and add more guitars to my inventory weekly. Thanks for looking!!
