Category 5 4x10 Andrew in great condition!
If you are looking at this then you know about Cat 5 amps. This has all the well know features, basically 2 amps in one. The clean side is straight up blackface, the overdrive side is more tweedy. It has power scaling, so it can be used in lower volume settings. It also has a lush and full reverb.
I've had this amp for about 3 years now and have played maybe 4 gigs with it. I love the tone, but it is one amp too many and sadly, something has to give.
This amp at one time belonged to John Alex Mason, a very well known and respected Colorado blues artist. He unfortunately passed away, but prior to passing he expressed the wish that the amp be donated to Blue Star Connection. I picked it up from them, so the lineage is impeccable. John Alex to Blue Star to me.
This amp was custom built for John and he had it voiced specifically to be in the Super Reverb tone family. The tone is very similar to the amps used by Jimmy Thackery and Tab Benoit, same style (4x10's) and same vibe. It runs about 45-50 watts and is powered by 2 6L6's (or 5881's depending on your taste). You do not need pedals, you can plug right in, turn the volume to 8 or 9, slide the power scaling back and you get that great overdriven fender tone without blowing everyone away in the room. For the record, most every situation, be it outdoor festival or large hall, will be most adequately covered as it can get very loud if needed. Anyone familiar with a 4x10 configuration will know exactly what I'm talking about.
The amp will be shipped in the flight case and it comes with the leather cover that you see in the picture. Everything is exactly as pictured and everything works perfectly. There is an input for a single button foot pedal on the back, I believe that it cuts the reverb, but I've never had it and it is not included.
Please check my ratings on eBay (jsweeks75), they are impeccable and this is the 3rd amp I've sold on reverb.com. I've had 5 stars on both my previous amplifiers sold here. You can be completely confident that everything is exactly as described and that you will have no issues.
The amp will be shipped in the flight case and the leather cover will be put in the back of the amp. This is a heavy unit, with the flight case the weight is about 105 lbs. The amp itself is about 60-65 lbs. Shipping costs will be calculated once the purchase is made, but you should budget at least $100-$120 to get this from point A to point B. It could be more dependent on your location.
The flight case and cover are easily worth over $300, so this amp is priced to sell.
If you are familiar with Category 5 then you know that they are built like tanks. The quality is top end.
This is a great amp and I hope that whoever gets it will get great use out of it. It needs to be played.
Thank you for looking!
