The new Yamaha soprano and alto recorders are made of the environmentally friendly, biomass material TERRAMAC®, which retains the same durability, strength and appearance as ABS resin while reducing CO2 emissions. This proprietary material is rooted in polylactic acid (PLA), a biomass-derived resin made by fermenting sugar from plants and produces much less CO2 than other plastics as well as reduced fossil fuel usage during production. The use of TERRAMAC® represents not only the world’s first application of plant-based materials in a commercially available musical instrument, but Yamaha’s continued commitment to developing eco-friendly production processes.
Made of the Proprietary Plant-Based Biomass Material TERRAMAC
Yamaha uses TERRAMAC in recorders, retaining the same durability, strength, and appearance as conventional ABS resin while reducing CO2 emissions. Yamaha is contributing to the development of a more sustainable society by working to prevent global warming and reduce consumption of chemical resources at the same time as we manufacture high-quality musical instruments.
