2015 Marklund D-28 Shadetop
Lately I've been more comfortable with shorter scale guitars so I've decided to list my Marklund D-28 for sale, with that being said it is by far the best sounding Dreadnought I've owned. I bought it from the original owner who commissioned Per Marklund. The guitar is braced after a transitional period 1939 D-18, with the bass side braces scalloped more to 1944 specs to with a warmer/looser sound and feel. The neck is reinforced with an ebony rod in place of a truss rod (This guitar DOES NOT have an adjustable truss rod), for those uncomfortable not having an adjustable truss rod please do not consider this guitar. The ebony rod and the compression frets do a good job at maintaining a strong/straight neck with .013 gauge strings, the 3rd to last photo on the listing shows the relief at the 7th (Middle) frets with the 1st and body frets fretted. The neck is a thicker C shape neck, if you're uncomfortable with larger necks please do not consider this guitar, the closest profile I can compare it to is a Martin D-28 Authentic 1937. There are a couple of minor flaws such as near the end pin area, the binding shrank slightly due to the nitro gassing off, Dennis Berck cleaned it up and confirmed that it was not a structural concern(last photo). there is a small back crack near the center strip that occurred during the build and was fixed right then, you can kind of see it the finish as it is hard to photograph(2nd to last photo). My luthier checked the spot and confirmed with me it is nothing to work about. There is a tiny crack on the bone saddle as well(If it bugs you then this is an easy replacement at any shop). The guitar had a neck reset last year as well as a set up from Dennis Berck. Extras include an K&K Pure Mini pickup as well as Waverly Gold/Snakewood tuners and matching strap button on the heel. The guitar originally came with Waverly Aged Nickel Oval button tuners that will also be included with the sale. Martin Hard Shell Alligator Tolex Case included. All in all it is a great guitar, sensitive enough for fingerstyle and powerful enough to hold up in a bluegrass setting. Beautiful Shadetop as well as beautifully grained Alpine spruce top and straight grain Madagascar Rosewood (You don't see Madagascar of this caliber often). Comes from a pet/smoke free, humidity controlled home. I'm asking $3750 Shipped/Paypaled. I'd entertain a trade for a Bourgeois DB Signature Small Jumbo but aside from that I'd rather just sell. Local pickup is possible in Oklahoma City, OK.
In the sound clip it's the first guitar being played.
Original owner spec’d with the luthier Per Marklund. Very similar build characteristics of Blazer & Henkes and vintage pre-war Martin specs, feel, and sound. (Recent setup by Dennis Berck)
-Alpine Spruce top
-Madagascar Rosewood back/sides
-Rear shifted 39 style bracing
-Wide Neck 1 3/4 nut & 2 5/16 saddle
-Tucked alpine bracing & bridgeplate
-Compression fretted, wartime ebony rod, hide glue, nitro finish, early 34 burst
