About This Listing

A very rare unbranded roundhole probably made some time in the 50s. The guitar appear to have come from the Franco-Sicilian luthiery tradition that includes Busato, DiMauro, Catania, Bucolo, Oliveri, etc.

It may have actually been built under contract by Catania (for more info see: ). This guitar shares many of the features often found on Busatos and other guitars of Sicilian origin: an arched back, a three piece neck, an ornate pickguard

This guitar looks like a Sonora but the name Sonora was only a retail company who had guitars made for them by Busato, Carmelo Catania, possibly Jacobacci or Castelluccia and probably others, there are many variations on the style but if it does not have the Sonora brand on it then it is probably by one of those above who also made guitars for other retailers with or without being branded.  Sonora did not MAKE guitars, they only branded guitars bought in.  So, and yes the tailpiece is a later Saga replacement, but going by the style of the pickguard and the bridge both are typical Sicily (rather than Sicilians in Paris) and my money would be on Carmelo Catania who probably also made the one branded as a Sonora on Djangobooks website.

This guitar is untouched and in unbroken original condition, the bridge and S tailpiece are a later addition. It plays well and the vintage sound is fenomenal, the neck is kind of wobbly straight (see pics) because of its age but plays in this condition but for stage worthiness I would flatten out the fingerboard.

Feel free to make me an offer on one rare to find gypsy treasure.
