RARE 1970's Elk Galaxy Hollowbody in Sunburst.
In case you are unfamiliar with ELK, here is a little blurb from the Reverb staff when this model was featured in a Reverb article:
"Elk
Circa 1970 Elk Galaxy
Elk was one of the few guitar brands that was never built for export. The Elk guitars were considered top tier, manufactured by Miyuki Electronic Corporation to complement its line of professional amps.
Indeed, some of these guitars can go toe to toe with the American counterparts they draw their inspiration from. Elk had its own factory in Tokyo until it burned down around 1968. Manufacturing switched to the famed Matsumoku plant, alongside such other brands as Ibanez and Greco."
Guitar- Great overall shape. Checked over by our luthier it has a straight neck, responsive truss, original pickups sound great, it has just received new strings and a setup and it plays nice and low with no buzz. Frets are wide and flat (popular on Japanese guitars) and very little fret wear is apparent. Tuners have been upgraded to high end USA locking Sperzel machine heads, and they keep the guitar in tune well. A bit of wear throughout the guitar, small dings and surface scratches throughout, I tried to document the more major dings and binding wear in the pics. (Some pics show reflections of my floral patterned curtains, so just be aware that isn't anything weird on the finish) Does not have the original pickguard. The original vintage pickups sound amazing, Elk were very well known for their incredible sounding pickups. Middle position on the pickup switch can cut in and out sometimes (easy to replace but our luthier wanted to keep all the electronics original) comes with a non original hard shell hollow body case that fits the guitar well. As with all our guitars this will ship ASAP with full insurance and tracking.
