Our
equaliser is a classic Pultec EQP-1A clone . Its filter circuit has an inductor
with manually wound thick copper wire on a powerful ferrite ring that provides
a good quality factor (Q) and gives excellent tone. This inductor is filled
with wax, as in the original Pultec. The filters also have vintage Soviet СГМ capacitors based on silver and
mica. Unlike most of modern EQP-1A copies, Magnetec has no printed circuit
board. All mounting has been done manually (as in the 50's), with point to
point construction, based on carbon resistors. In curcuit we applied Soviet
permalloy transformers, basicly used in mixing consoles with large magnetic
cores. Unfortunately, their number gradually comes to an end. We also use one
of the best Soviet interstage capacitors, paper-oil KBG-MP.
The amplifier is assembled with 6Н3П-ЕВ tubes of increased durability,
lifetime of 5,000 hours, they are New old stock, made in the mid-80s by Soviet
military. Unlike the most Pultec modern clones, we use kenotron tube rectifier,
the same as in the classic EQP-1A. It is important, as rectifier is a part of
audio curcuit! The device has a transformer inputs and outputs, 600 ohm input, large
overload capacity.
It produces very distinctive (unlike other EQ's), bright and warm signal as we
can hear in 50's and 60's records. Each of our EQs has a pair chosen according
to their maximum identity, which can be used as a stereo pair. We hope our EQs
will help you in achieving distinctive vintage sound of your recordings.
