Hi there
I have been collecting and playing guitars since the 1970's and its come to that time in my life when unfortunately I have to let some go.
The wife wants a Caravan by the Sea etc and the Kids and Grandkids need new shoes vibe.
If you are looking at this guitar then we both know it needs no introduction. I love great guitars and this one falls in that category.
I dont claim to be an expert so please excuse my descriptions but i,m doing the best I can.
NO GOOD OFFER REFUSED - I dont mind you coming and try before you buy. This is a cool retro vibe Gretsch Duo Jet G6128 - 1957.
This guitar was made in 2004 in the Terada Factory.
Terada was established in 1912 making violins. After World War II, around 1955, Terada started to make `Stringed Instruments’ in earnest.
In the 1970’s they produced more than 10,000 guitars per month. The Terada factory also built Orville and Epiphone for Gibson. Gretsch contracted out to Terada to make their higher end guitars when the company was resurrected in the mid 80’s. Steinberger also used Terada to make the Japanese bodies for the USA graphites.
The Gretsch Duo Jet has been at forefront of the
birth of rock'n'roll.
With
a chambered solid body design, the Gretsch Duo Jet has a deeper, more resonant
sound than your standard single cut electric guitar, This guitar is fitted with Dynasonic single coils made by DeArmond.
The Duo
Jet was first introduced in 1953 as response to the success of the Gibson Les
Paul. A key difference between the two was that the Duo Jet was not a true
solid-body, instead being semi-solid with routed channels and pockets inside.
The
name Duo Jet was inspired by the guitars two pickups (Duo) and the advanced
aircraft of the day (Jet). It was the first Gretsch guitar to have the truss
rod accessible through the headstock, a pickup selection switch and a master
volume on the cutaway.
Made of
a chambered mahogany body, the Duo Jet model 6128 is one of Gretsch's most
sought after guitars. One of the most notable differences between the Duo Jet
and comparable guitars is in its configuration variations. While it shares
their dual pickup, single cutaway style with the more popular Gibson Les Paul
the 6128 Duo Jet models take various unique approaches for shaping the tonality
of the instrument.
The
most famous example of this Duo Jet was played by George Harrison during The
Beatles early days in Hamburg, and on their first few albums. Harrison also
posed with the guitar for the cover of his 1987 solo album, Cloud Nine. Other
notable players include Duane Eddy, Chet Atkins and David Gilmour of Pink
Floyd.
When this guitar was produced in 2004 it came with a price tag
