For sale here is an MIJ or MIK electric guitar made in Japan. I suspect it to be a Cort make because I have had similar guitars in the past marked "Cort" or "CMI." Cort licensed out to Matsumoku in Japan for a short period of time in the late 60s/early 70s, and guitars like these are the result. If not that, then these were made at Cort in Korea.
This thing is great. To me, the style looks like a Harmony H-804 meets a Fender Jaguar. The finish is nicely worn, but not beat to hell. the aged pickup covers look great with the red finish and black guard. The pups have a tone that is halfway between a single coil and a P-90 -- a super sweet clean tone that takes distortion/fuzz well. Great for surf or garage.
The shining star of this guitar is the beautiful mahogany neck. The back of the neck is a beautiful dark red/brown and it looks fantastic with the black finish. The neck also feels great. The action is low and comfortable.
I replaced the tuners, as the originals had parts missing, but I used a set of vintage MIJ tuners from an old retired project, so they are fairly true to the originals. They work and hold tune wonderfully.
As always, I cleaned it up, polished the finish, oiled the board, changed the strings, cleaned the electronic components and set the action as low as I could. This guitar comes with no case or gig bag, but I pack all my guitars super tight and insure every package.
For all your surf, garage, indie and general rock 'n roll needs!
