Here we have a one-of-a-kind masterpiece Gibson J-180! This guitar was built by the legendary Ren Ferguson in 1993.
This guitar is one of the earliest art guitars ever produced at Gibson by Ren. The first was produced in 1991, and only a handful were produced between then and 1993.
This guitar is famously featured in the book Gibson's Fabulous Flat-top Guitars. There is a full-color photo of the guitar featured in the hardcover version of the book.
This guitar was originally displayed and sold at NAMM 1994. Ren says the guitar was sold to the famed collector Mac Yasuda.
As you know, Ren is widely regarded as one of the world's greatest master luthiers. His Gibson acoustic guitars are the most desirable models produced since the pre-war era. There's a good reason for this: his guitars sound phenomenal. His attention to detail is second-to-none. In addition to this, he also has a keen eye for aesthetic details. He also chooses only the finest tonewoods from which to build his guitars.
I once had a conversation with Ren and asked him how he made such great-sounding guitars. His response was "I choose woods that already know how to sing."
This guitar features a gorgeous star inlay pattern on the headstock, fretboard, and pickguard. Ren designed the inlays himself.
The neck heel also features silver sparkle stars.
One of the great features of this guitar is the silver sparkle purfling on the top, back, sides, fretboard, and headstock of this guitar. Very unique! This material was handmade by Ren.
The back and sides of this guitar are constructed from top-quality maple. The top is spruce while the fretboard and bridge are genuine ebony.
This guitar is in excellent condition, having only been played lightly during its life. It has been very well cared for.
The guitar includes the original hardshell case, all original paperwork, and a letter written by Ren himself.
