This is a rare Klira solidbody guitar, made in Germany. West Germany, for sure.
Klira at the time was one of the biggest guitar manufacturers in Germany. The quality rivals that of Höfner and Framus for sure, but the guitar brands are less known.
The guitar is the only one I have ever seen - it was very likely only a very small run. The guitar resembles the Framus BL-7 and was maybe a copy of that model.
There is a signature etched into the pickguard - "Johnny Wa or Johnny Ma" or something, it`s not really legible and a quick google search did not yield any tangible results.
solid mahoganey (?) wood body, 620 mm scale, weight 3,14 kg!
Condition:
The guitar is in a used and clearly well played and rocked condition, with lots of scratches, dings and dongs. Small lacquer fissures etc. - this one has clearly been loved and played.
The pickguard is a bit wobbly and has tiny bits broken off. The Schaller tuners are all original, one of them seems to be from a different set - you only notice that when you restring the guitar.
The nut has some edges missing but works well.The electronics work well.
Sound and Playability:
The guitar plays well with a low string action, very comfortable neck that is rather slim. As said above, some minor buzz around the 5th-7th fret but no complete fretting out. The pickups have a low output and sound twangy, very vintage.
The controles are 2 Volume, 1 Tone and a three way switch that works like on a SG.Frets, Repairs, Service:
I cleaned everything, polished the frets, oiled the fretboard, put up new 10 gauge strings and set up the guitar as good as possible. It is ready to be played and does not need further service (unless you want to go in deep and have it refretted). The guitar does NOT come with a case, but I pack it very carefully.
