Hand Built Rangemaster Trebel Boost, Vintage Oc44 Transistors, capacitors and resistors


All the parts where practical are vintage. Namely carbon film resistors and the main element the oc44 transistor mostly entwistle or mullard all sourced around 1960s/70s and individually selected to suit the specific type of boost you are looking for. Rory Gallaghers rangemaster was very different to Toni iommi’s, each transistor is voices differently and interacts with the input capacitors and the resistors differently. This is why I am tending to build each one to order rather than loads of off the shelf boxes.


The effect is developed by the interaction between the input capacitors and the transistor and the real beauty in the sound of these vintage effects is that the germanium transistors in particular are literally all different so no two will ever sound exactly the same.


We have tried to stay absolutely true to the original with a couple of modifications allowing you to alter the sound a little. Bear in mind these are analogue effects designed in the early 60s built with 60s and 70s parts you are not getting a modern digital effect.


The principle modifications are a switch allowing switching between 3 input capacitors allowing you to push more or less lows and mids through. The other main addition allowing the effect to be used with a 9v power supply.


I can give you a very close replica of the originals by altering the physical resistors capacitors and transistors trapping the specific sounds of Iommi, Clapton Gallagher, May the list just goes on and on.


You really are getting the same kind of quality circuit built with care and attention that you might otherwise be paying £300+ for.


I’m a cottage industry with low outgoings I see no need for the high prices these change hands for and I want to give people like myself who love that 60s70s hard rock and crunchy blues sounds the chance to own these effects.


The enclosures are hammond 1590n1 so perfect for a pedal board enclosures there are several options for artwork but the beano version has proved very popular.
