Up for sale is a beautiful and rare Guild DV62 in excellent condition. This guitar is in fantastic condition with no issues and very few minor cosmetic flaws. The Guild DV series stands for dreadnought vintage. This series was designed to replicate the looks and sound of the best USA built vintage acoustic guitars. These are lightly built, unlike the normally heavy Westerly built guilds. This guitar closely rsemebles the very popular Guild DV52. Instead of an abalone rosette, it has a herringbone rosette and top purfling. If you are a fan of the Martin D28HD herringbone guitars, then this is the guild for you. Guild records show 146 of these made in 1994, but the 1993 serial numbers were combined with the DV52 serial numbers, so its unclear on how many were built in 1993. But know this, there were very few of these built, and they do not come up for sale often.
The DV62 comes with a very nice Sitka Spruce top that has lots of silking lines, also known as medullary rays. Google this term to learn more about this feature on acoustic guitars. There are some dark grain lines in the spruce wood that can look like cracks or flaws in the pictures. However, if you will look at each side of the top. you will see these unique grain lines are reflected in the opposite side of the "book matched" spruce top. There is no weather checking, and no dings, dents, or scratches in the top. The pickguard and some other areas of the top. have some very faint swirling and pick marks, but can only been seen under flash light. The ebony bridge appears untouched or shaved, and the saddle is nice and tall with plenty of room left for future string action adjustments. The East Indian Rosewood back and sides are very nice with a variety of sizes of grain lines, giving it great visual depth. There is no belt buckle rash, and no major dings, dents, or scratches on the back. Only some light swirling marks, and some light marks in the nitro finish. The dark Ebony fretboard is in good shape with only some minor wear in the first fret on the "b" string. The metal frets along the B string show some wear signs in frets 1-4. I have posted pictures of these flaws.
The guitar has no pick up installed. I find that to be a good thing because in the 1990s, guild was cutting out a large square in the side wood to mount a Fishman pickup with on board controls, EQ, and blend. Now you can add a modern day pick up, like the DTAR system (my favorite), that requires no cutting or holes in your DV62.
Overall this guitar is incredible to look at and play. The sound is very dry and woody, with a great, booming bass response. If i did not have too many guilds already, this would not be for sale. I have no interest in seeing this guild sale quick, so i will be listing it at the top end of the current market value. Once you get this guitar in your hands and strum that first chord, you will understand why I would not let this guild go easily.
The only guitars i buy, sell, and collect are guild acoustics. I guitar hunt daily for only the best guilds, in the best condition, saying no to hundreds of listings before I find a gem like this one. I am adding more used guilds to my inventory every week so check back with me frequently to see what i have. You can also message me about a specific guild you want, and I can help you find it. I prefer to make deals through my site or privately, so message me with any and all questions, offers, and requests for pics and information. My upcoming guild listings will be for a 1993 JF55, D55 Tacoma, D55 New Hartford, Westerly Mark 4 Rosewood Classical guitar, and a Westerly Songbird acoustic electric. Thanks for looking!!
