Crazing consistent with age. Scratch in the back about 2.5” shown in pic. Klusons were replaced at some point with Nickle Grover Rotomatics. The serial number is 264604 leading us to believe it is probably a 1964 but during this time the serial numbers had been re-used on some Gibson models so definitely dating these is very hard.

The Epiphone Granada was introduced in 1962, and like all 1960s Epiphones, was built at Gibson’s guitar plant in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Most Epiphone models were based on a similar Gibson model, and this was no exception, being practically identical to the Gibson ES-120T that was launched approximately the same time. It was a thinline acoustic, with the same body size as the Gibson ES-125T or the Epiphone Sorrento; though (initially, at least) with no cutaway.

The pickup was a single coil unit, mounted into the scratchplate. It was the same part as used in the Gibson Melody Maker guitars, part number PU-380.

The guitar did not change much over the course of it’s production, with one exception. Like all Epiphone thinlines, it started off with the older pre-Gibson era style headstock – not too different from Gibson’s; however around late 1963/early 1964 the shape was updated to a much curvier style, flaring out at the far end.

Epiphone and Gibson thinlines typically had the same construction: a maple top and back and mahogany sides, with mahogany neck. Like the Gibson equivalent model, the ES-120T, the Granada was shipped in a burst finish – the Epiphone ‘Shaded’ finish – though the neck, back and sides are a dark translucent Walnut brown, with single ply cream binding picking out the front and back edges.

The pickup is a pickguard-mounted Melody Maker-style single-coil (part PU-380), as used on thousands of Gibson and Epiphone solid body guitars

Trapeze (bail-type) tailpiece (part TP-1020N), and floating rosewood bridge, with rosewood saddle (part BR-35)

24 ¾” Scale
16 ¼” wide
1 ¾” Thin

From 1961 to early 1970, Epiphone used 6-digit serial numbers in the Gibson serial number line. However, many serial numbers were duplicated during this period, making the exact production year difficult to trace. It is certain that the models with a 6 digit serial number starting with 0 were produced in 1967.
