1935 National Guitar Style 1 1/2 "Wilbur"

I am very excited to offer this circa 1933 National Style 1 1/2 Tricone squareneck. This is one of the most beautiful guitars ever made. In the late 1920s when these guitars were first built, America was at the peak of the Hawaiian music craze that had been going on since 1916. Consequently, most of the guitars National made back then had squarenecks for playing lap steel style, which was extremely popular at the time.

This particular guitar is in excellent condition with only a few minor scuffs and scratches here and there. The cones appear to be original but the original tuning machines have been replaced with new gears from National Reso-Phonic. This guitar has the engraved “wiggle” border that National used from 1935 on, a non-cataloged pattern that is generally referred to as the 1 ½ style. Also, the name “Wilbur” is engraved on the cover plate. The serial number on the headstock was removed quite some time ago and the shape of the headstock shape was slightly altered in the process. This guitar includes a new hardshell case.
