About This Listing

Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.

You are looking at a highly collectible 1940's era Electro Voice V-1 "Velocity" Ribbon microphone in non-working condition that comes with an equally rare period desk stand. A smaller ribbon mic made by E.V and certainly one of the most unique. This would make a great mod project or even an award for somebody. It comes with the period Atlas stand shown.

Pic # 2 is from an old Electro Voice advertisement showing it's basic characteristics.

The V-1 series is about 3 times smaller than the much larger V-2 produced by Electro Voice during the same time period. This V-1 measures 6 1/2 inches tall X 2 1/2 inches wide. The polished chrome body shows very lite wear as seen in the pictures provided and the nicer V-1 I have ever offered for sale on Ebay. The E.V label looks pretty damn nice too but there is some chrome loss on the metal mount as seen in pic # 10. The V-1 sits on it's original yoke / swivel and it works nicely allowing just the right amount of tension and desired angle. Very lite wear on the chrome tightening / thumb screws. Both front and rear chrome screens have very lite tarnishing as seen in the pics and free of any dents. All original components inside including original ribbon, transformer and all screws.

This first generation Ribbon mic is in working condition but it cannot be used for any live event. These early E.V ribbon mics had larger, longer ribbons and they were notorious for stretching over the years. This one has that problem so the sound is very bassy and the signal is is only about 30%. The ribbon will need to be replaced but I can recommend ENAK to do this job as his experience is top notch. I find that few V-1's still work so this example is typical of a V-1 this age being in original working is quite rare. This will make a very nice display mic however unless you have the ribbon and motor replaced.

The on / off switch works perfectly and slides smooth. Cosmetically it's a very conservative 7 + on a scale of 1 - 10. Very impressive due to the fact that these polished bodies scratch and pit easily over the years.

MICROPHONE STAND IS PART OF THIS SALE...

The stand is a period 1940's Atlas DS-6 model desk stand. The stand is an excellent platform for this mic as it's quite heavy and very wide. The cast iron base has a classic deco design that was very popular in the 1940's. Very nice physically with original paint. This taller stand gives the microphone additional height. Mic with stand is appx 14 inches tall X 6 inches across. There is almost no wear on this stands base and is quite beautiful. Comes with 3 original felt pads.

There is very lite wear on the nickel plated 6 inch riser. These older stems / risers were actually made of brass not steel so when the nickel is worn away you get a beautiful brass patina beneath. You can see the original Atlas decal is still mostly present which is a rarity for stands of this age. This was one of several early Atlas models and was discontinued by 1950.

 I'd give the stand a solid 7 + on a scale of 1 - 10.

As with all my other vintage microphones...

The return shipping will be on you as I believe that's fair but the purchase price would be refunded. Simply return in the same nice condition...period. Check my rating.
