The Electric & Company EC6 is essentially a deluxe production version of our EC600 preamplifier circuit(Stereo 6, Ampex 600 Series).
The EC6 utilizes upgraded Cinemag Input and Output Transformers, polypropylene film/foil caps, PEC pots, and a special blend of Holco, Dale, and Ohmite resistors.
The EC6 preamplifier employs a high gain EF86 pentode tube in the first position, with a low gain 12AU7 twin triode tube in the second and third positions. No negative feedback is employed in the first stage, which adds a distinctive edginess, and presence to the sound.
The EC6 can be run conservatively for a "sweeter" sound, or can be pushed for additional harmonic content and slight compression. If you have never heard one of these, then you owe it to yourself to try one. Nothing else sounds like it.
