Hi All,

I have a super rare custom guitar for sale. It is only the fourth guitar ever built using the NCC-1701 design, created in a collaboration between German guitarist, Helge Engelke and his luthier, Thomas Stratmann of Stratmann Gitarren.

Sadly, Helge Engelke died unexpectedly from a colon tumor at the end of April 2023, so $2,000.00 from the proceeds of the sale of this guitar will go to his widow Olatz and their daughter.

Two painted versions of these are owned by Engelke, and another one was built for a client of Stratmann in Spain. This is the only other complete authorized guitar and the only one in the USA. The "D" designation means it's the fourth built. Of the four this one has the most exotic hardwoods, and has some of the most exotic hardwoods available when compared to other builders' guitars!

This was built by longtime luthier, Dan Maloney, of MSI/Maloney Stringed Instruments, who has been building guitars and violins for over 37 years and worked for Zeta, before and after it was purchased by Gibson. He has also built instruments for Les Claypool of Primus and worked on Kirk Hammett of Metallica's guitars.

This was a very unique, difficult build that will rival any other manufacturer's Private Stock guitars. I handpicked all the woods and parts for this project, and it features many rare specifications top US builders use. I supply hardwoods to several luthiers and a boutique amp builder.

The antique wood was tested to be from the Palaquium genus, a Southeast Asian/Indian hardwood and is from an over 100 Year old shelf from a San Francisco Victorian Home! I was lucky enough to obtain four such shelves, and used the most figured one for the back. When one taps on the wood it rings like metal, much like Pernambuco blanks sound when tapped. When the guitar is strummed in the case it rings between 20 - 30 seconds. When one taps on the wood it rings like metal, much like Pernambuco blanks sound when tapped.

Each blank was measured using a Lucchi Meter to test their sonic rating and chosen for their high Lucchi rating over other pieces of wood. The Korina was rated at 5150, Pernambuco 5500 +, African Blackwood 4300 and the antique wood rated 5070.  The best and most expensive modern violin bows will have a Lucchi rating of 5500 plus.
