(USED) Sometimes a guitar comes into our shop that makes everyone turn their heads, and that is definitely the case with this custom from Simon Fay.  Mr. Fay now has a wait list stretching several years, and we feel very fortunate to get to represent this, just his 10th guitar!

At 15″ across the lower bout, it’s about the size of an OM or a classical guitar, but has added body depth for an increase in bass response.  Words like “lush” and “complex” only begin to describe the supple tones that this instrument is capable of!  The sinker redwood top, dark brown from the mineral deposits picked up while it was submerged, gives the guitar a heightened sensitivity and an extremely quick response, perfect for a fingerstyle player with a light to medium touch, or for jazz runs or arpeggios played with a flat pick.  The action is low and buttery, and this guitar doesn’t particularly want to be aggressively pounded on… but you already knew that.

It has a stunning Ziricote back as well as double-side construction (the inside laminate appears to be Indian rosewood) for extra rim strength without adding weight.  There is a sound port on the bass side, which gives the player a lovely window into the sound coming off of the instrument.  The scale is 25″, with a nut width of 1 13/16″ and string spacing of 2 5/16″ at the saddle… again, very enticing to the fingerstyle guitarist.  We’ve been picking it mostly in DADGAD, to which it responds perfectly, but it’s no slouch in standard tuning.  The fingerboard is Ziricote, with wood binding and accents throughout.  The neck profile is a low “D” shape and is extremely comfortable.

The attention to detail on this instrument is staggering, it’s easy to see why the wait list is so long for a new Fay.  Here’s your chance to have a very early example at a very compelling price!

The condition is excellent, with just a couple tiny dings in the top and no fret wear.  Comes with original custom Ameritage hardshell case.
