The Tone of Trini Back in 1958, Buddy Holly's father convinced his son's producer, Norman Petty, to record a group called Trini Lopez and the Big Beats. Between then and now, he has recorded an astonishing sixty-five albums, and he's still gigging to this day! In 1964, he also helped design one of the coolest Gibsons ever to grace the stage: the Trini Lopez Standard. With its split diamond inlays, diamond-shaped F-holes, 6-on-a-side tuners, and Trini Lopez tailpiece, it cast quite a striking figure, and its iconic looks have made it a favorite of superstars like Dave Grol and Noel Gallagher.
Now, the Gibson Custom Shop pays tribute to Trini Lopez's lasting stardom with the 1964 Trini Lopez Standard. This guitar--which is based on scans of original models from its first run of production between 1964-71--captures everything that made the vintage examples so coveted. All of the uber-cool cosmetic features are there, so it cuts an imposing figure.
It also plays like a dream coated in Crisco thanks to its Authentic '64 Medium C neck profile and authentic medium jumbo frets, a neck configuration that lends itself well to a wide variety of techniques and play styles. Finally, two Alnico III Custombuckers produce plenty of sweet vintage PAF tone.
We're proud to showcase the Trini Lopez signature model. We believe that it is a wonderful tribute to one of the hardest-working musicians in the world, and we know it will inspire you to strike out on all sorts of exciting fretboard adventures!
