A 1970 Guild 12 string (Model # F212. Serial #51286 , With alligator orig. case.  2 of the tuning keys are off and I have them case . Back of box was water damaged but we are playing it with 6 strings.  I plan to have the back fixed soon. But it sales as is for now. It sounds and plays sweet!  I"ve owned it for over 43 years  and it  has not been played 30 hours the whole time so the frets are in relay good shape. I bought it from my old drummer who didn't play it  and he said he got it from his dad.  Notable players Paul Simon, Berry McGuire, Richie Havens, Nick Drake, John Denver, Paul Simon .    Thanks

Something I was wondering for many years now is why Guild does not make the F-212 XL anymore.
Obviously sales must have been down when they discontinued the model.

Having owned and played many F-512's and F-212 XL's ,I prefer the sound of the Mahogany 212 XL.

Both of these models are sweet and we all know that not every one out of the factory is great.
I still after all these years have yet to find any that compare to the sound of my 1973 F-212 XL.

What's your main preference in wood for a guitar sound,Rosewood or Mahogany? I know it can depend on the make and model etc.
It just seems that the last few 12 strings I have played in Rosewood were lacking in sound to me.

I thought about calling Martin to ask about a jumbo (Grand Model) in all Mahogany.
What do you guys think...would that model be overkill? I love my Martin J12-15 but miss the depth in tone of my Jumbo Guild's

Jumbo-shaped Guild 12-strings stand as some of most recognizable Guild acoustics ever made. The F-212 came out in 1964 with Mahogany back and sides and a Spruce top. The F-212's body had a flat lower bout which differentiates it from the rounded bottom of the F-112.
