Byzance Jazz Series cymbals are hand hammered into shape by Meinl cymbal artisans in Turkey using B20 bronze alloy. Meinl jazz crashes produce a warm and natural vintage sound that opens up into a full spread that dominates with dark tones. These crashes are made thinner to produce old school sounds with an earthy, dark wash. A light, sizzling overtone provides just the right amount of subtle brightness to the overall mix of the cymbal. Not confined to jazz, these cymbals are ideal for any style that requires the dark, washy sounds of a hammered Turkish cymbal.
Founded in 1951 and based in Germany, Meinl Percussion is one of the two leaders in European cymbal and percussion manufacture alongside Paiste. The Byzance series features traditional Turkish hammering techniques with a basis of B20 alloy for a traditional, atmospheric cymbal sound. The 17" Jazz Thin Crash responds with an immediate, punchy attack and low tonal profile.
Years of production: ca. 1990-present
Composition: B20 Alloy (80% copper, 20% tin, traces of silver)
Associated artists: Brann Dailor, Tommy Clufetos, Chris Adler
