NuReality Vivid 3D (Power Supply Included!) -- If you're looking, you already know: Randy Staub used units like this on Evanescence's "What You Want" guitars, making some of the widest guitars ever. This unit is EXACTLY THE SAME as the infamous SRS WOW Thing Randy used (small blue box), but with less control.

After speaking with former NuReality and SRS Labs employees, NuReality was the manufacturing/CPG arm of SRS Labs and this box uses the exact same technology as the WOW Thing. This unit comes with an original, genuine NuReality power supply (super hard to find)!

Sound processing is the same as the WOW Thing except you can't separately adjust "TruBass" (Psychoacoustic Bass) and "WOW" (Psychoacoustic Highs/Mids). From my experience, this unit's 3 settings affect psychoacoustics in different ways: Bypass (no processing), "3DM" (stereo separation/phasing with emphasis on bass in Center channel and mids in Side channel), and "SRS" (stereo separation/phasing with emphasis on Mids/Highs in the Side channels). When testing, I found that "SRS" worked well on thrashy and industrial guitars, whereas "3DM" sounded good for more hard rock style guitars -- but that's subjective and preference. As a sonic reference, Evanescence's "What You Want" sounds like it uses the "3DM" Setting on this.

This unit functions 100% perfectly, though there is a small blemish on the top face plate of the box. This is shown in the final picture -- it does not affect functionality at all and is barely noticeable.

A note on functionality: you'll need DI boxes to get signals to correct volumes. Note that quarter inch/XLR cables to RCA aren't balanced. I spoke with producer/mixer Dan Korneff (Breaking Benjamin, Papa Roach, Paramore) and he advised using the ART CleanBox Pro DI. I used a Radial ProRMP Reamp Box into the unit with the unit's output running into an Aphex Project Channel Preamp (gave me the option to add more Big Bottom/Exciter if needed) -- the extra psychoacoustics aren't needed, but the volume boost is.

Open to offers on this, though do note these units are hard to come by and getting harder and harder to find.

Please note this item is sold "As Is" given I tested it and it works, but I haven't actively used it and they're no longer produced.

The remainder of this post is from a 1998 Silicon Investor online post explaining NuReality's product line, with non Vivid 3D details ommitted:

NuReality produces the Vivid 3D product line, a family of sound enhancement systems based on the award-winning SRS 3-D sound technology for multimedia, home stereo and video game applications. All Vivid 3D products use patented SRS technology to create realistic 3-D sound from only two speakers.

Two non-amplified models, the Vivid 3D and the Vivid 3D Plus, are designed for multimedia computers (both PC and Macintosh) and cartridge-based game systems (such as Nintendo and Sega).
