Fender Telecaster - Jonny Greenwood Radiohead Custom!!

This is a replica of Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood’s Telecaster! After seeing their other, lesser known guitarist Ed O’Brien have his signature model made by Fender and sold for over $1000, it got me wondering why they haven’t made a Greenwood signature model yet. Jonny’s been playing that same model for 25 years, and after Custom building one, I can see why!
All the work was done by a luthier, and Wizard with guitars. Special attention was paid to getting all of the details correct. We started by installing the exact pickups that Greenwood uses. A Lace Sensor Blue single coil in the neck position, and a Double Lace Sensor Red humbucker in the bridge. We have the coil-switch replaced with a mute (kill) button so the bridge pickup with exclusively as a humbucker, just like Jonny. The bridge pickup is a HUGE part of Radiohead’s signature tone. Instant Radiohead in a pickup. Total game changer! When you strike a chord you can literally hear every note in that chord ring out. As we got further along, I started to understand that a guy that has limitless money for instruments in a band with tons of equipment would stick with this one guitar for so many years. Pretty incredible! We installed Schaller strap locks, new 3-way switch, upgraded pots and cap, and D’Addarrio 10’s. Setup with perfect action and intonation! Also, after lots of digging managed to track down the elusive Attack No 1 sticker that Greenwood has on his pickguard and the Honda motorcycle sticker that he has below the bridge.
I didn’t have the heart to “relic” this guitar because sanding down the edges seemed too permanent for such a beautiful instrument. I also didn’t put the stickers on. They will be included with the package. I figured I’d leave that up to whoever becomes the rightful owner!
I made two of these, and this one I kept NICE 👌🏻! I have a gorgeous pearloid pickguard on this and the switch and knobs were upgraded to chrome. Can easily pop those off and wrap with duct tape like Jonny, but I didn’t want to do anything to lessen this guitar in any way. I did however include the pic of what the first Greenwood Custom Telecaster looked like if you were to apply the included stickers and such.
I also attached a video to the bottom here of the first Greenwood Tele which is an exact copy of this one so you could see the versatility of this guitar in action! I played through a solid state Marshall and only used a handful of basic pedals to showcase the sounds of this guitar. You can hear every note and nuance when played with drive pedals and the full richness when played clean. During ‘Weird Fishes’ you can see how the attack on the strings can really change the character of the tone with just very minimal drive on the guitar, and by how going to using a pick on ‘Black Star’ and not switching anything else can really get crunchy!
