FINAL PRICE REDUCTION ONE WEEK ONLY Skip Kelley is known in the mandolin community as one of the most talented builders. He has developed somewhat of a cult following among those in the know. He is old school in every way. He does not maintain a website. Building Mandolins are his passion and he builds them by himself entirely by hand. He only builds about ten mandolins per year. Everyone I’ve played and heard has been exceptionally good sounding and extremely well built, one would expect they would cost significantly more than he charges. He distributes his new instruments through Kevin Douglas at MandoMutt who has championed his instruments since 2009. They have found their way into the hands of some top players including Adam Steffey and others. His new mandolins are typically sold by Mandomutt for $6,000 for F styles and $3,500 for A styles which is a bargain considering the quality and incredible tone of his instruments. A two point like this model would sell for $4,500 new Skip is definitely going places His reputation is steadily growing and his instruments will undoubtedly go up in price substantially in the coming years. This particular mandolin is very strong. It’s very loud with excellent projection , has a great chop , is perfectly balanced and has impressive dynamic range. The top is aged Redwood over 100 years old and the back and sides are highly figured Hard Rock Sugar Maple. The nut width is 1&1/8” and the Ebony Fingerboard is radiused with block Mother of Pearl inlays. V shaped highly figured and flamed Tiger Stripe Maple neck. The body and headstock are fully bound in tortoise shell colored purfling. The machine heads have Mother of Pearl buttons. The playability is excellent. The tone is huge and as it hasn’t been placed much, it hasn’t even really opened up yet. It comes in a Superior White Fiber Glass highly protective case. A truly first class beautiful professional Mandolin at a reasonable price that belies it’s level of craftsmanship. No question that whoever winds up with this mandolin will be very pleased.
